Digital cameras began to appear in the photography market about 10 years ago. It used to be quite costly then but prices has since become more affordable with demand and its popularity. Even new range of mobile phones now come with cameras with pretty decent results.
Having bought a few digital cameras, I have a few pointers to share when I choose my own camera?
1. BUDGET
The very first thing whenever you make up your mind to want to go out and buy something, have a budget which you are willing to spend. This is also a popular question a salesman will tend to ask you when you walk into their stores not sure of which camera you wish to purchase.
2. FUNCTIONS
What kind of functions do you want to have in your camera? Most cameras are already fitted with the basics, you may want to look out for ‘function friendly’ models that suits you. For example, some cameras has a bigger optical zooming capability while most would offer a basic of 3X optical zoom. If you are the type who likes to travel, a camera with a good zooming capability may suit you better when you see something far away which you would like to zoom in for a close up shot. Be sure to look for optical zoom.
Cameras with high mega pixels may sounds good but unless you are into photography editing or developing big photos, you won’t need them.
3. USAGE
How often do you think you will be using your camera? Many people often rush out to buy something out of impulse because of its advertisement they saw on TV or magazines. So, be sure it is something you choose to pick up to do or your camera will end up being a ‘white elephant’.
4. SIZE
Size does matters. Decide what size of camera you will want to have. Why? Simply because you will need to carry it around everywhere you go when you want to use it. Most ladies would prefer to carry a small camera with basic functions because it fits in well with their handbags or purses. While most men being gadget geeks may want to look for camera with a good professional look plus lots of functions. The point here is, choose something you are comfortable carrying around. The best would be to try holding the camera at the stores to feel it in your hands to see if you are comfortable handling it.
5. Check Around.
Lastly, check around forums and read what others are generally talking about the brands and models you fancy. Ask friends who uses digital cameras as they will be able to give you valuable tips of their experiences which you may look out for or avoid when buying your own camera.
So, that’s how I choose my camera. Hope you have found the tips useful when you buy your digital camera.
